There are always new people to the world of RPing and then some of us that just need some fine tuning. So the purpose of this thread is to explain what you believe an average post should be like. Give us hints, pointers, and everything else you think that's helpful.
Basic Stuff:
Answer/respond to what someone is saying to you
Explain your intention, tone, voice
Describe your actions clearly
Tell us your feelings, emotions, etc.
If a post gets too long, make separate paragraphs (they are easier to read)
Grammar and spelling makes people love you ;D (most important!)
If you run out of things to say:
Mention the weather.
Talk about your surroundings. (describe the location)
Be thorough explaining your characters thoughts.
Analyze the character RPing with you.
Relate past memories to the current situation.
Mention movement. (i.e. sitting, staring, finger cleaning, etc.)

ANOTHER THING!
Color-coat what your character is saying (let it be whatever color you may have, as long as the other person can read and use it for their post).
